When is Black Friday 2024?

Black Friday always falls the day after Thanksgiving in the USA, so this year that’s 29 November.

It was traditionally a US phenomenon stretching across the weekend and rounding off with Cyber Monday.

In recent years however, Black Friday has grabbed the imagination of shoppers across the globe, with retailers typically running their biggest sales of the year at this time.

With huge discounts across everything from appliances to toys, it’s the ideal opportunity to start your Christmas shopping and start ticking off gifts from your wishlist.

These days there’s no need to wait until the actual day itself either as many retailers start dropping their prices from early November, though you’re bound to see the best deals on Black Friday through to Cyber Monday.

If you’re intrested in how Black Friday got its name then check out our explainer.

When is Cyber Monday 2024?

Cyber Monday traditionally marked the end of the Black Friday sale and this year takes place on 2 December.

It was originally geared towards online shopping, now though, all retailers who take part in the annual sale tend to continue their offers into Cyber Monday, whether they’re internet retailers or not.

While the day is still recognised as the official end of the annual Black Friday sale, we’ve seen discounts continue into December and even up until Christmas as retailers attempt to capture the lucrative festive gift market.

And of course this is all the better for us shoppers as it means more chance to grab a bargain!

Which retailers will offer washing machine deals for Black Friday 2024?

While we don’t know for sure at this time which retailers will be cutting their prices on Black Friday, we can take an educated guess and say most, if not all of the big-name home appliance brands will be taking part.

If previous years are anything to go by then expect to see deals from a raft of retailers, both on the high street and online, so you can enjoy your shopping bonanza in town or from the comfort of your sofa.

While discounts are bound to start in the run up to the shopping event, the best deals will likely be saved for Black Friday itself, so do your research beforehand and be ready to go on the day.

Hanging on may secure you a bigger saving, but you may also miss the chance to bag the washing machine you’ve set your heart on if you wait too long.

What’s the best brand of washing machine?

There are many different brands of washing machines available in the UK and the best washing machine for you will be the one that most fulfils your needs.

Of course, your requirements will depend on the number of people in your household – and kids, youngsters especially, are particularly messy.

Functionality will also affect your choice – do you want a washing machine with plenty of different programmes for washing different fabrics, or do you only ever use one or two of the settings on your machine, in which case are you happy with a more basic model?

Popular names include Samsung, Zanussi, Bosch, LG, Miele, Hoover and Beko – and they all offer a range of models to suit the size of your household.

What’s the best energy rating for a washing machine?

Currently in the UK, A is the best energy rating for a washing machine, and G is the least energy efficient.

However, an A rating is attained by very few products and the majority of energy-efficient new washing machines are labelled B, C or D.

The rating scale changed in March 2022 so if your machine dates from before then, it might be classified as A+++, A++ or A+, with A+++, in this case, being the most energy efficient.

If energy efficiency is important to you then it’s worth doing your homework before buying to find a machine that ticks all of the boxes.

How much electricity does a washing machine use?

How much electricity your washing machine uses and how much it costs to run will depend on various factors including energy efficiency, the programme you use, the size of the machine/load and how often you run it.

If you use your machine once a week it’s going to cost less than if you do a load of washing every few days.

Check the instruction manual for your model to find out how many kilowatt hours (kWh) the appliance uses then multiply this by the cost of a kWh of electricity.

Currently the national average cost of a kWh is 24.5p. There are slight variations depending on where you live, your supplier, the tariff and meter type.
