TikToker @nursehannahbh shared a video on October 5 explaining the challenges faced by a mother of a toddler and a newborn baby while being unwell and her husband out.
In the video, she showed 17 soiled diapers scattered around her home and soon the video went viral and started to be designated as the “17 Diapers Mom”.
The video evoked a mixed response with most netizens showing sympathy while there were a few critical responses also.
The video also highlights the expectations of the society from mothers as well as the benefits of sharing authentic experiences online.
TikToker @nursehannahbh in her video had tried to explain how difficult it was to manage a toddler and a newborn baby and fulfil parental obligations.
She invited viewers to take a tour of her house and she eventually discovers 17 diapers scattered all over the house.
Her husband was out and had gone for a hunting trip while the 17 diapers were the buildup over the course of a day. The young mother also revealed that it was only two months postpartum and she was also ill.
Hannah revealed that most of the comments were negative at first with many chiding her for not keeping her home tidy. However, Hannah reasoned that they were not aware of the conditions in her home.
Hannah said,
“Yes, there were 17 diapers around my house but they didn’t see me coloring with my son, while breastfeeding my newborn at the same time. They didn’t see me taking my son to the park, pushing him on the swing, while holding my newborn,”
Many users also chided her husband for being irresponsible and leaving his wife and going hunting.

The video ignited a huge debate on the social media platform with some users expressing surprise about how so many diapers had been collected in a single day.
Some users also suggested the young mother to use a diaper pail and instead store diapers in different places. Hannah clarified that she used a diaper bag to collect the diapers before disposal.

Some mothers shared stories about their own trials and tribulations and said that they, too, struggled to balance childcare while experiencing physical or emotional tiredness. They also invented a new term to describe the moment-“17 diaper moments.”
Mothers also discussed other related problems associated with caring for newborn babies which ranged from postpartum depression to loneliness, and tiredness from raising a child.
The video has since garnered over six million views.
