DRAMA BEHIND ‘MPONDOLAND’?

Zimoja reports that the AmaMpondo Royal House has expressed their concerns about the upcoming show, Mpondoland.

AmaMpondo Royal House spokesperson, Prince Mbasa Sigcau says: “We were recently made aware of the show through the media. We were never consulted on the scripting and the accuracy of the information being shared on the show.”

“We are definitely skeptical and very concerned that production will go ahead with a historic show without consulting us,”

The AmaMpondo Royal House and Amadiba Crisis Committee have reportedly distanced themselves from an upcoming drama series.

Sunday World reveals that the series, which focuses on the lives and stories of AmaMpondo, is being shot in Gauteng.

Mbasa Sigcau tells the publication that the Royal House of AmaMpondo was never contacted about the show.

“We’re even more sceptical because they’re already shooting. And we don’t know how and where they received their information.”

Sigcau adds that they are also concerned that their cast is dominated by non-Mpondo speakers.

“Therefore we’re wondering if they will be able to speak isiMpondo properly without sounding like Xhosa-speaking people.”

The AmaMpondo Kingdom reportedly initiated talks with government to have isiMpondo recognised as South Africa’s 13th official language.
