MARTIN Lewis’ MSE has warned drivers of three major car brands that they could be missing out on claiming thousands of pounds.

A huge compensation deadline is approaching in the next few weeks which experts suggest could result in average payouts of over £10,000.

Martin’s team have urged motorists to look into the potential of a claim in relation to the Dieselgate emissions scandal.

The issue came to public attention in 2015 when VW admitted to providing authorities with inaccurate test data making its diesel models appear to be less polluting than they actually were.

It is now being investigated whether VW and other manufacturers used “defeat devices” to manipulate emissions tests for more than a decade.

Several class action lawsuits have been brought against a range of brands as a result but each has its own cut-off date for customers to get involved.

Thousands of potential claimants have to get their applications in within the coming weeks to join the case against a trio of big-name manufacturers.

Owners of diesel models from Hyundai, Kia or Volvo made between 2009 and 202 could potentially be affected.

You may be due compensation if it can be proved that a faulty emissions test either played a factor in your decision to buy the vehicle or has subsequently affected its value.

Just be aware that the brands involved are likely to contest the cases.

This could means that hearings drag on for several years before any resolution is reached.

Some law firms are offering “no win no fee” packages in relation to the claims and the payouts are likely to more than make up for any costs.

Experts from Check My Vehicle Reg have even suggested that the average compensation payment could be more than £10,000 per driver.

All the same, Martin’s team recommend only undertaking a claim if you are confident that you have been affected to avoid unwanted fees.

You could be eligible if:

• You own/owned a diesel vehicle made between 2009 and 2020
• The manufacturer is included on the list of those being investigated
• The model of your car is included on the list of those potentially impacted.

However, your claim must be made through a law firm as part of a class action suit – individual claims are not allowed.

Kia and Hyundai drivers have three options in the form of Bingham Young, Johnson Law Group and Pogust Goodhead.

The deadlines for submitting your claims are November 4, October 30 and November 6 respectively.

Volvo owners can also try these three, with deadlines of December 11, November 7 and November 12.

However, they can also go with Leigh Day by October 21 and Law Room Solicitors by November 16.
