Seventies pop legend forced to slash prices on UK gigs with tickets cut by 50% in scramble to fill seats

PRICES for the latest tour of a pop veteran have been dramatically slashed after ticket sales failed to fly off the shelves.

British singer and 1970s music legend Leo Sayer is set to appear in a one-night-only performance at the London Palladium — but entry has been reduced due to dwindling sales.

When I Need You singer Leo, 76, who has been part of pop history for over five decades, is currently touring the UK and promises ‘high-energy performances’ and a setlist full of toe-tapping crackers.

The songwriter’s London tickets are available to purchase for a slice of the original price (£63), but have now been cut by more than half with some being sold for just £20 + £4 booking fee.

The 2,286-seat auditorium still has spaces available, despite tickets being slashed.

The half-price tickets were only available in specific seating sections — the Grand and Royal Circle — and fans were limited to a maximum of four tickets each.

Last year, the You Make Me Feel Like Dancing singer told The Sun about his hopes for a crowning-glory show at Glastonbury.

In an exclusive chat, Leo said of finally playing the festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset: “The people who are doing the documentary with me — that’s their dream, to take me there.

“Please, God, they can get through to that.

“Yeah, that’d be great.

“It would be a great denouement of the career to do something like that.”

In 2007, Sayer appeared on reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother which housed controversial scenes between the late Jade Goody and Indian actress Shilpa Shetty.

The singer famously threw a tantrum when Big Brother bosses refused to provide him with clean underwear.

He told The Scottish Sun at the time: “I broke out of there because it was a horrible experience and I still don’t know why I ever agreed to do it.

“But I’d rather be recognised for my songs and I still tour because I enjoy it. All I want to do is be on stage. I love to entertain.”

The prolific performer was last in the dance charts two years ago with a re-working of his 2006 hit with Armand van Helden, Thunder In My Heart Again, which was first released in 1977.

His autobiography Just A Boy marks half a century since he released the album of the same name, Just A Boy.
