MICHAEL Strahan was furious with the New York Jets’ decision to fire Robert Saleh this week.

And the former New York Giants legend had a theory on why the Jets acted.

Strahan told his Fox NFL Sunday co-stars “hold my beer” before revealing his theory.

Saleh was fired by the Jets two days after their loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London, England left them 2-3 for the season.

And Strahan reckons the Jets were trying to stay relevant in the New York sports market.

It comes with the New York Giants having won a couple games in the NFL.

And both the New York Yankees and New York Mets have made deep runs in the MLB playoffs.

Both Big Apple baseball teams are one series victory away from reaching the World Series.

And Strahan said Sunday, “A lot of chat in New York with the Yankees and Mets in the playoffs and the Giants are winning again.

“The Jets said ‘hold my beer,’ let’s join the club.

“They want to be talked about too so they fire their head coach.”

Strahan questioned the timing of the Jets’ decision given they’re still in a close AFC East race and Aaron Rodgers’ return from a long injury layoff.

“Really I just don’t understand this move at this point in the season,” Strahan said.

“You have to look at the general manager Joe Douglas.

“He’s had two head coaches, three offensive coordinators, three quarterbacks and this thing is not turned around.

“I really don’t understand what the Jets are doing this early in the season.

“They have a quarterback coming back off injury and things take time.

Michael Strahan’s NFL career

Michael Strahan is one of the most recognizable faces on television.

But he came into his media career off the back of a hugely successful stint in the NFL.

Strahan spent 14 years all with the New York Giants from 1993 to 2007.

He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and helped them win the Super Bowl in 2007 – ending the New England Patriots’ hopes of a perfect season.

Strahan was also a two-time NFL sacks leader and also won Defensive Player of the Year.

The ex-Giants star set the single-season sack record with 22.5 in 2001 – a feat which was matched by J.J. Watt exactly 20 years later.

He is one of the best defensive stars to have ever played the game – finishing with 141.5 career sacks and 854 tackles.

“If they win against Buffalo, they’re in first place, they panicked too early.”

And he concluded, “But now they’re in the conversation in New York with everyone else.”

Saleh was fired Tuesday with Jeff Ulbrich serving as interim head coach.

New York’s offense has looked off all season despite having four-time MVP Rodgers under center.

And Jets owner Woody Johnson decided to act after consecutive losses to the Denver Broncos and Vikings.
