‘How are they allowed to make this?’ Netflix viewers rip into new rom-com branding it a ‘painful waste of stunning cast’

NETFLIX viewers have ripped into a brand new rom-com, despite its A-list cast.

Users took to social media in droves as they slammed the new production from the global streamer, calling it a ‘painful waste’.

The plot is focused on a successful author who whisks herself off to a writers retreat[/caption]

Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth star in the brand new film, Lonely Planet.

It follows a newly-single writer Katherine Loewe (Dern) who embarks on a trip to Morocco.

She treats herself to a stunning writers retreat in Marrakesh where she is met with a surprise.

A connection forms between herself and the much younger Owen Brophy (Hemsworth).

He’s also on his own personal journey as he is stuck re-evaluating his life.

But despite a string of recent successes with romantic comedies, it seems this new film has fallen flat with fans.

The star names in the cast did not stop viewers taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – to complain about the movie.

One user exclaimed: “Sheeesh this movie #LonelyPlanet is missing something ! Where is the spark !? Do they not do chemistry tests with actors anymore?!”

“What I enjoyed most about Lonely Planet was when the movie was over. Good lord that stunk,” stated a second fan.

While a third noted: “LonelyPlanet was okay… a just there rom-com. It did its job but you won’t be missing out if you don’t watch either.”

As a fourth wrote: “Eek I watched The Lonely Planet and only because it was filmed in Marrakech, Morocco. But don’t bother … awful.”

Another commented: “Not only was Liam Hemsworth & Laura Dern’s chemistry unconvincing, forced & awkward, LONELY PLANET has got to be the most insignificant, inconsequential romantic drama that Netflix assembly line had ever produced; featuring the shallowest epiphany ever written.”

Someone else fumed “Lonely Planet fell so spectacularly flat, like there wasn’t a single moment throughout the movie that I felt anything.”

They added: “Such painful waste of a stunning cast, my goodness. I powered through cos both lead actors are so damn good looking but fuck, couldn’t they have said no??”

And a seventh film fan added: “I watched the movie Lonely Planet on Netflix last night and my God! I’ve not watched a bad movie in a long time I forgot how bad movies can get.

“From the acting, the dialogue, the storyline and Liam Hemsworth’s stupid run. Omds it’s horrible! How were they allowed to make this?”

However, not all Netflix viewers thought the same thing as many users also declared their love for the film.

One fan excitedly stated: “Really lovely Saturday Morning watch.”
