Tom Brady handed huge boost in new career venture after Fox NFL broadcast star faced major restrictions

TOM Brady has taken a step closer to becoming an NFL owner as well as a commentator.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion had been frustrated in his attempt to buy a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.

But Brady, 47, is set to receive some good news.

He first showed an interest in purchasing a stake back in the spring of 2023.

ESPN reported that his ownership bid is likely to be approved by NFL owners this week.

NFL owners will gather at the league’s fall meeting in Atlanta starting Tuesday.

Brady’s bid has been approved by the NFL’s finance committee, ESPN reported.

And now the next step is for it to be presented to the 32 team owners.

The report from ESPN added that the league would not present it if it was not going to be approved, making it a formality.

Brady is set to get the green light on his bid to purchase a 10 per cent ownership stake along with Tom Wagner.

The ex-quarterback has already launched a successful broadcast career with Fox Sports.

He retired from playing after the 2022 season and signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox.

Brady officially began this season and has taken up a spot on the top team with Kevin Burkhardt and Erin Andrews.

The 47-year-old becoming a part owner would rule out any chance of him playing again, it was reported this week.

And he faces a number of restrictions in his broadcasting role if the ownership goes through.

ESPN reported in August that he will be subject to the league’s anti-gambling and tampering policy.

He would also not be allowed to enter another team’s facility, watch practice, attend broadcast meetings or criticize officials.

The Tom Brady domino effect

Tom Brady will take his seat in Fox’s top NFL announce team alongside Kevin Burkhardt.

And his arrival at the network has set off a domino effect with every other announcer moving down one spot.

That means Fox’s NFL coverage in 2024 will feature entirely new broadcast pairings.

Greg Olsen, who previously worked alongside Burkhardt, will now be part of the No. 2 announce team with Joe Davis.

The other Fox pairings for 2024 are:

  • Adam Amin-Mark Sanchez
  • Kenny Albert-Jon Vilma
  • Kevin Kugler-Daryl Johnston
  • Chris Myers-Mark Schlereth

Brady revealed on a Fox broadcast that he was considering joining the Chicago Bears in 2020.

He eventually moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after his long stint with the New England Patriots.

“[The Bears] was a team, and I’ve never told that story before, they were very stealthy in their recruitment,” Brady said.

“I was seriously considering it, but in the end, it came down to Tampa.

“It was close to my son Jack, I loved [coach] Bruce Arians and the role that he played in offense.

“[It was] ultimately the great players like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin that I’m still out there watching today.”
