Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave stacks it on the ice as first celebs spotted training for new series of Dancing On Ice

SIR Steve Redgrave took a face-first tumble as he pulled on his skates to train for Dancing On Ice.

The retired rower, 62, revealed his spot on the nail-biting ITV reality series during an interview on This Morning.

With the full Dancing On Ice 2025 cast line-up now confirmed – and Holly Willoughby‘s show kicking off in January – Sir Steve has taken his first glides on the ice.

Yet images show while he’s a natural on water, on a frozen surface, it’s a different story.

Wrapped in a blue jumper and dark trousers, he took his first tentative moves accompanied by a male pal.

He held his arms out for balance as he made his way across the rink.

Yet before he could reach the other side of the hoardings he fell face first – putting his arms out to support his fall.

Sir Steve then sparked concern as he lay with his cheek on the freezing cold ice before his companion helped him up.

The sports ace, who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games, recently spoke out about his Dancing On Ice debut.

He told This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley: “I must be closest to being one of the oldest, if not the oldest, on the show, but I’m certainly the heaviest that’s ever been on the show.

“120 kilos, so that’s around 20 stone, so I’m not light.

“And I’ve been asking [for] somebody big that can lift me.”

When asked why he was giving it a go, Sir Steve laughed: “I don’t know!

“But earlier this year on the series it was Torvill and Dean‘s 40th anniversary of winning their gold medal, and it’s my 40th anniversary as well … and we’re friends.

“Some of my friends are saying it’s a midlife crisis, but I’m too old for a midlife crisis!”

The real reason Sir Steve decided to sign up for the series was recently revealed – this being to keep fit and lose weight.
