‘Haters’: Mama Joy claps back at ‘attention-seeking’ claims

Mama Joy – real name Joy Chauke – has clapped back at criticism that she was an “attention-seeker” at Bafana Bafana’s game against Congo on Friday, 11 October.

The sports fan has come under fire after a viral video showed her “pushing” a child out of her camera shot during the televised match.

South Africa’s superfan – who recently tied the knot to her French husband – has previously courted controversy for accepting government-funded trips to high-profile tournaments.

Bafana Bafana beat Congo 5-0 in their AFCON qualifier match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

MAMA JOY CLAPS BACK AT CRITICISM: ‘JUST A HATER’

On the X app, Mama Joy became a trending topic after she was spotted “pushing” a young boy’s Bafana Bafana poster out of her camera eyeshot.

The sports fan looks directly at the camera while doing so.

On the social media platform, Chauke was dragged for appearing “attention-seeking” and “narcissistic.”

The 50-year-old clapped back by retweeting posts that defended her actions.

Some of them read:

“She appears on your TV screen whether you like it or not.

“She doesn’t like to be distracted.”

“How does a child block Mama Joy’s face like that? He’s spoiled disrespectful!

Chauke even called one critic – a Jozi FM presenter – a “hater.”

She tweeted: “He wanted an interview about me and Papa Joy at Jozi FM, I couldn’t go. Obvious he’s a hater…Watch the space. Thanks [for making] me trend.”

In another tweet she added of her actions: “I was watching the game and needed no disturbance. They call it focus.”

THANK YOU, NEXT

Despite the social media commentary, Mama Joy has remained unfazed, sharing news of travel itinerary.

She tweeted: “Thanks PE… Now is time to go to Soweto.”
