UPDATE (10/11) — As a result of the investigation, detectives determined that 72-year-old Rayfield Ruffin of the residence was the owner of the firearm involved in the incident.
On Thursday, Ruffin was arrested and charged him with violating NGS 14-315.1 Storage of Firearm to Protect Minir.
Ruffin was released at the magistrate’s office after posting a $2,000 unsecured bond.
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Wednesday night.
In regards to a reported shooting, they went to a residence located on Deborah Court in Greenville. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a five-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim as transported by EMS to ECU Health where he later passed away.
Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says that the initial investigation concludes that a six-year-old accidentally shot the victim.
Pitt County Sheriff says no further released at this time. The incident is still currently under investigation.
