Upstate SNAP recipients to get replacement benefits automatically due to Helene

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Current SNAP recipients in the Upstate will automatically be issued replacement of some of their September benefits.

The United States Department of Agriculture approved the waiver request which allows the South Carolina Department of Social Services to automatically issue replacement benefits to current recipients living in counties where 50% or more of the total population experienced a power outage lasting more than four hours during Hurricane Helene.

SNAP recipients in 28 counties, including all Upstate counties, will be issued a replacement of 55% of their September benefits.

You will not need to apply to receive these replacement benefits.

The replacement SNAP benefits will be electronically added to EBT cards on or before Tuesday, October 15.
