The last day of Sharadiya Navratri and Durga Puja is specifically Dussehra. It is a day celebrated particularly in Hinduism. On this day, the Maa Durga idol is immersed, and the fast of Navratri is also broken. Sharadiya Navratri initiates from Pratipada of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month and extends till the Dashami Tithi. During this period nine forms of Maa Durga are worshiped, and by their blessings, one seeks the prosperity and positivity in every act of life.
Durga Visarjan Date: Durga Visarjan in 2024 will take place on October 12, Saturday. On this day, Dashami Tithi of Ashwin Shukla Paksha would start at 10:58 am and remain till October 13, 9:08 am. This day marks the immersion of Idols of Maa Durga. This time is said to be especially auspicious because three auspicious coincidences like Shravan Nakshatra, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, and Ravi Yoga are being formed on this day.
Significance of Durga Visarjan: According to religious beliefs, on the very first day of Navratri, Maa Durga goes to her mother’s house, i.e. earth and after living there for 9 days and distributing boons to her devotees leaves the earth on a Dashami date. Maa Durga is returned back to her husband’s house, Kailash. This day has importance as this time is itself an epitome of completion. Like a daughter goes to her in-laws’ place after spending a couple of days in her house, Maa Durga does the same. The act is also called ‘Visarjan’. It is an act of fullness and rebirth of life.
Time and place of Durga Visarjan are important. Immersion At the time of immersion, the confluence of Shravan Nakshatra and Dashami Tithi is considered the most auspicious. If all the methods are followed properly on this day, the blessings of Maa Durga remain, and the happiness, prosperity and peace come into life. Religious Significance of Durga Visarjan: Visarjan means ‘completion’. When the work is completed, it gets immersed. This symbolically points towards perfection in life and spiritual growth. This day is also called Vijayadashami, meaning the triumph of good over evil. After the worship and immersion of Maa Durga, Vijayadashami is worshipped, which highlights the spirit of the triumph of truth over evil and untruth.
Nine days of Navratri: During Navratri, the different forms of Maa Durga are worshipped every day. On the first day, one worships Maa Shailputri. On the second day is Maa Brahmacharini. On the third day, one worships Maa Chandraghanta. One worships Maa Kushmanda on the fourth day, Maa Skandamata on the fifth day, Maa Katyayani on the sixth day, Maa Kalratri on the seventh day, Mahagauri on the eighth day, and Siddhidatri on the ninth day.
