Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper aims to return to Bafana squad BUT…

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma says he still has ambitions to play for Bafana Bafana again.

The 29-year-old hasn’t been a regular for Amakhosi since Nasreddine Nabi took over as head coach. Instead, the Tunisian coach has opted to field new signing Fiacre Ntwari in goals.

With Brandon Petersen returning from injury, it appears that Bvuma might be a third-choice keeper this season. The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper enjoyed game time last campaign, playing 18 league matches in total. Bvuma inists having a foreign keeper at Chiefs won’t affect his Bafana chances.

“I don’t think having a foreign keeper at Chiefs jeopardises my Bafana chances,” he said.

“Reason being; I believe that it’s all entirely up to me if I make the team or not…it has nothing to do with the foreign goalkeeper that’s playing in our team. I just have to work hard and I will be back in the national team again.”

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper wants to play for Bafana

Bvuma said that he doesn’t have an issue with foreign keepers playing in the PSL. This comes after Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos raised an issue on the PSL having many top foreign keepers.

“I don’t think we can go the Egyptian route or is it North African? For me, if a goalkeeper is good enough, let him come, let him play. If he’s good enough to be the first-choice, let him be the first-choice. I will make an example like Denis Onyango [suggesting he was good enough to be Mamelodi Sundowns No.1 before Ronwen Williams ousted him],” Bvuma said.

The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper has been capped three times for Bafana Bafana. With Ntwari being the preferred choice, Bvuma might have to leave Chiefs in the coming months if he wants to fight be back in the Bafana fold.
