GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — As you register to vote, you might want to learn more about your candidates.
Some people say local races can sometimes get overlooked on the years of a presidential election, but one organization is hoping to change that. Professor Cindy Elmore at the ECU School of Communications is making sure all voters in Pitt County know their local candidates. She and her team created the “Voter 411 ENC” website to provide non-partisan information.
“We had a 13% penetration rate in last year’s low turnout elections. Now, we’re hoping with this being a presidential year, more people will go. But the problem is there are so many offices up for election, a lot of people will skip those at the bottom of the ballot, which are important. These are important positions.” said Cindy Elmore, ECU School of Communications.
