Okaloosa Jail Worker Busted For Alleged Smuggling Operation

A contracted employee at the Okaloosa County Jail has been arrested for smuggling contraband, including cellphones and vaping devices, into the facility. Corey Shaun Labauve, 26, was taken into custody on October 3 after an internal investigation by the Okaloosa County Department of Corrections. Labauve, who had worked at the jail for just 30 days, now faces charges for introducing illegal items into the facility.

Chief Correctional Officer Nolan Weeks emphasized that the smuggling posed a serious risk to the safety of both staff and inmates, and reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance stance on such activities. “The smuggling of contraband into a correctional facility is a serious offense that directly threatens the safety and order of our operations,” Weeks said.

Paul Mixon, Chairman of the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners, praised the investigation team for their swift action in arresting Labauve and ensuring the security of the jail. Labauve is currently being held at the same facility on a $2,000 bond.
