Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Picks Up Non-Conference Win

In a battle of two evenly matched teams, Harri Rowe was the difference. Facing the Chowan Hawks in a midweek non-conference matchup, Rowe’s 48th minute free kick goal proved to be the game winner, as the Bears hung on to win 1-0.

The teams combined for nine shots and five shots on goal in the first half, but went into the break locked at 0-0. Harri Rowe placed a perfect free kick in the bottom right corner of the goal early in the second half, putting the Bears up 1-0.

LR kept pressing, as Ido Omaysi and Macoy Strawn had back-to-back shots saved by Chowan’s Chase Jansen in the 68th minute. Chowan garnered the final five shots of the game, with none being on target.

The teams tied 10-10 in total shots, with LR leading 6-4 in shots on goal. Cathal Carney made four saves in the match.

The Bears now have a 6-1-1 all-time record against Chowan, including a 4-0 home record. Harri Rowe’s goal was his first of the season and ninth of his career. Chowan were given four yellow cards, while Raul Canas and Jaheim Smith picked up cards for the Bears.

The Bears are 4-3 overall, 3-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. Lenoir-Rhyne will resume conference play on Saturday when they travel to Hartsville, South Carolina, to take on #8 Coker. The Cobras currently sit at 7-1 on the season and take on Francis Marion later tonight. Their only loss is to fellow conference foe Limestone. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
