I set a ‘standard’ dress code rule for my wedding but all my guests were fuming, I made an embarrassing mistake

A BRIDE-TO-BE has revealed the “dress code” mistake she made on her wedding invites that left guests mortified.

Australian media personality Brittany Hockley has been in a long-distance relationship with ex-Celtic star Benjamin Siegrist for around two years.

The couple got engaged in a lavish beach proposal in Oz earlier this year.

Brittany is now planning a stunning Bali wedding for the pair to celebrate their ‘I Do’s’ with their loved ones.

But she’s already faced a mortifying wedding planning blunder after handing out her wedding invitations.

Speaking on her Life Uncut podcast, the influencer revealed she had set a “strict wedding dress code”.

But a language barrier between some of her guests meant her one rule came across as something completely different – and way more personal.

She said: “Ben and I sent out wedding invites. And he’s like, babe, I’ve been getting like these random messages. People keep asking me about the dress code.

“One of my friends messaged me [too] and went ‘dress code?’

“This happens four or five times. That dress code is pretty standard.”

Explaining it further, she added: “So Ben is Swiss and half of our wedding is foreign.

“One of his female friends messages ‘Hey, I just wanted to follow up about the dress code’ and he’s like ‘yes, what is the problem?’

“And she was like ‘well, how strict is it? What if it doesn’t go with my dress?’

“He was like ‘oh, so confused’. And then she goes ‘well, I don’t understand how she’s going to know if I wear it. Who in their right mind would make us wear and enforce no thongs.’

“And then Ben was like ‘they’re going to be on your feet. She’ll see them’.

“And she went ‘hang on, feet?’ And he was like, ‘yeah, your feet’.”

It was only at this point that it dawned on the couple that thongs in Australia means flip flops, but elsewhere – including Europe – it’s a form of underwear.

Brittany laughed: “Ben calls me [and said] ‘babe, half of the wedding things you’ve said they’re not allowed to wear G-strings, strict enforcement. Full briefs or nothing’.”

Her hilarious admission has since gone viral on Instagram with 703,000 views.

Her fiance Benji immediately jumped in the comments to joke: “The language barrier strikes again.”

And social media users have been left just as amused – and a little confused, too.

“This is hilarious”, wrote one.

A second admitted: “NGL I didn’t get it until you explained it. I thought the same as the guest.”

A third added: “Lol I knew that’s what she meant but I also knew what they understood as soon as she said thongs.”

A fourth chimed in: “Now you have to have someone doing undies checks at the door.”

A fifth joked: “Granny panties or bust for your wedding.”

Meanwhile a sixth pointed out: “Just imagine what the friend was thinking. That you didn’t want Ben around people sexy underwear or something. She probably thought you were nuts.”

Brittany’s goalkeeper fiance Siegrist left Celtic for Romanian side Rapid Bucuresti over the summer.

His Glasgow departure came after he alluded to the fact he sees his future away from Scotland.

And while he’s only made it 1,900 miles so far, it’s understood that a move to Australia to be with his other half is his end goal.

In an interview with Stellar magazine last year, he said: “I’m a very private person and like keeping to myself, but me wanting to open up to Britt was a sign.

“She listens and she makes me laugh so much.

“She’s so kind and always wants to help people and lift other people up. She really is the full package.

“I didn’t know what the future held, but I wanted it to be with her.

“And we will work out everything from now until the day I’ll probably move to Australia.”
