In 2024, the festival of Vijayadashami will be celebrated on October 12. According to the Panchang, Dashami Tithi is starting at 10:58 am on October 12 and it will end at 9:08 am on October 13. However, Dussehra will be celebrated on October 12, as this day also includes Udaya Tithi, which is considered auspicious.
Shastra Puja also has special significance on Dussehra. According to mythology, Lord Rama worshiped his weapons before the war with Ravana. Since then, the tradition of weapon worship on Dussehra has been going on. On this day, people worship their weapons and other equipment and wish for happiness and prosperity in life and victory over enemies.
The tradition of Ravana Dahan is performed on the day of Dussehra in different parts of India. Along with this, effigies of Kumbhakarna and Meghnath are also burnt.
