I’m on maternity leave & using side hustles to save for Christmas – I cash in £750 a month even though I barely show up

A MUM on maternity leave shared some of the ways she’s saving up for Christmas.

While her wages go towards the cost of moving house and having a baby, the woman is using side hustles to prepare for the festive season.

In her viral video, TikTok user Jamie (@savvyjamie) discussed the various forms of income she has established while on maternity leave.

She explained that her family has had a “really expensive” year and that she hasn’t saved as much for Christmas as she would like to.

The TikToker revealed that she had already “scrimped” her festive budget but still wanted to earn more money before December.

As a result, Jamie decided to embark on different side hustles to earn some spending money.

“I’m going to focus primarily on Vinted and also do surveys, user testing, and anything else I can dabble in,” she told her audience.

She showed her followers the bags of clothing she planned to sort through and sell.

Jamie explained that a lot of the bags contained Christmas jumpers and winter items, making them ideal to sell at this time of the year.

And while her various side hustles would help fund her family’s festive celebrations, she shared another money-making method she swears by.

The mum revealed that she uses her TikTok earnings to pay off the credit card debt she amassed during her move.

In another video, she broke down the exact figures she earned on a slower month on the app.

While discussing her earnings for the month of September, Jamie explained that there is “so much money to be made” on TikTok.

She revealed that she made £754.06 on the app without barely lifting a finger.

The young mum said she was “so proud” of the figure given her presence on the app had bee “quite quiet” since giving birth.

“[I’m] not making as much videos and I have low engagement as I’m not on the app as often,” she explained.

Despite this, she still managed to rake in £200 doing an ad and £178.20 on video views through the Creator Fund.

5 Money-saving tips for autumn/winter

1. Draught-proof your home

It takes time and money to heat up your home, so it’s important that you do as much as you can to keep in the warmth. Close your doors and windows, and fill any gaps with a draught excluder.

2. Dial down your thermostat

According to Energy UK, turning down your thermostat by just one degree Celsius could cut your heating bill by up to 10%, and save you around £85 per year. Plus, if you don’t have a thermostat, installing one could save up to £70 per year!

3. Move furniture around

Make sure not big, bulky furniture like sofas are blocking radiators.

4. Wash clothes on a lower temp and add an extra spin

Unless it’s bedding, towels or really dirty items, dial down the temperature to 20 or 30 degrees, and do a double spin to remove excess water.

5. Heat the person not the home

There’s not point heating up a room that no one is sitting in, so be mindful about which radiators are on.

She also cashed in £17.30 through the TikTok shop on her main account and earned a further £341.42 on her second account @jamieroseshops.

Finally, Jamie said she made £17.14 selling digital products, despite not advertising them at all during the month of September.

Her followers shared their thoughts on the side hustles in the comments section.

“Amazing Jamie, and doing this all with little ones,” wrote one impressed viewer.

“That’s amazing!!! I’m really hoping that I can increase my views and eventually income when I go off on maternity leave,” said another TikToker.

“You’re doing absolutely amazing! So easy to compare to others online but an extra £700 that you’ve made online is absolutely amazing!! Well done,” commented a third person.
