‘Am I floating Walmart a loan?’ rages shopper after retailer ‘holds’ $30 from customer while making an online order

WALMART has left one of its shoppers raging after “holding” $29.55 from her bank account.

According to the mom, who placed an online order with the grocery retailer, the money was kept “in case of substitutions and weight adjustment”.

This happens when Walmart authorizes an estimated order amount from a credit or debit card.

The bank then places a hold on that amount to ensure there are enough funds available to complete the purchase.

But for X user @missjuly1976, this is a situation she’s never encountered before.

She questioned: “Am I floating Walmart a loan until next week or something?”

The disgruntled mom took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the predicament she’d found herself placed in.

“My Walmart online order is $57.83,” she said.

“They want to hold an extra $29.55 in case of substitutions and weight adjustments.

“The overcharged amount will be released in seven to 10 business days.

Holding the money until the transaction is complete is, in fact, in line with Walmart and banking policies.

The grocery giant’s Help Center explains that “the hold may be more than the order’s final charge for many reasons”.

Among these are items priced by weight, substitutions, a change in the number of items, and any order cancellations.

Bag fees can also impact how much Walmart finally charges you for an order, depending on the state you live in.

The policy reads: “We charge the final order total to your credit or debit card once your order is picked up, delivered, or shipped.

“Once the order is complete, the bank will remove the hold based on their policies.

“This can take up to 10 days after the order is complete to remove the hold.

“We can’t remove the hold, only the bank can.

“Please contact your bank with any other questions.”

Walmart

Earlier today, Walmart shoppers were urged to check their dollar bills before buying groceries.

This is because of a crackdown regarding banknotes that have been damaged.

Shoppers who don’t check their currency could experience issues at the checkouts.

Major retailers are said to be clamping down on whether they accept bills from shoppers, according to Vibes.

Notes that will not be accepted include ones that are torn or are missing corners.

Shoppers might find themselves unable to pay for items if they use bills that are discolored.
