Wicked fans FURIOUS over botched musical poster remake with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo attempted to recreate the iconic 2003 poster for the original theatrical production of Wicked in San Francisco for Jon M. Chu’s upcoming big screen adaptation, frustrating fans of the Broadway musical.

In it, the 31-year-old Florida-born pop star wore a crown instead of a white hood, while the British-Nigerian 37-year-old showed her eyes and didn’t grin with red lipstick.

X user @schlife tweeted: ‘I can’t believe it took so long to remake the poster and that they messed with it so much.’

‘The subtle grin is the most iconic part of the poster, why does she just go [no expression emoji]?’ X user @Sweeney_Daily wondered.

Grande (née Butera) and Erivo star as Shiz University and housemates Glinda Upland and Elphaba Thropp in Wicked, and tickets for the first installment officially went on sale Wednesday ahead of its November 27 release date.

The two-time Grammy winner infamously met her married boyfriend Ethan Slater – who plays the munchkin-turned-tin man Boq – on the London set of Wicked, which doesn’t release its second installment until November 26, 2025.

Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle and Peter Dinklage also star in the highly anticipated two-part fantasy film.

Fans can also pre-order Wicked: The Soundtrack, featuring all 11 songs from act one, ahead of its official release on November 22.

On Wednesday, NBC published a promo for Ariana’s second time as host of Saturday Night Live, in which she warned the staff, “I would really rather not do anything to do with Wicked or Wizard of Oz.”
