Staples shoppers spot sign on door with closing down date – after 5 retailers already pulled out of same city this year

STAPLES has announced another closure coming to a US city in a little over a month.

A sign is now posted at the entrance of the retailer informing customers of the impending shutdown after several other locations have also closed in the area.

Staples has announced the closure of its Valencia Marketplace location, per local outlet to Santa Clarita KHTS.

The store is set to close its doors on November 11.

Management is encouraging patrons to visit the nearest location at 19141 Golden Valley Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91387.

This other location is only a 20-minute drive from the closing site.

STRING OF CLOSURES

The closure comes after a string of closures in Santa Clarita that have occurred in 2024.

Earlier this year, Slater 50/50 closed its doors in February. Shortly after, the Black N’ Blue Bar announced its closure via Instagram.

The store attributed its shutdown to an investigation by the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, which it claims was prompted by the City of Santa Clarita.

The trend continued with the 99 Cent Store, which revealed plans to close all its locations, including three in Santa Clarita.

Additionally, the fashion retailer Express filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April.

It announced plans to close 95 of its more than 500 stores, including its Valencia location.

In May, Abe’s Pawn Shop, a fixture in Old Town Newhall for over 40 years, also announced its imminent closure.

MORE CLOSURES

Five Stop & Shop locations in Connecticut are set to close at 3 pm on October 31, just hours before trick-or-treaters head out for Halloween.

The stores had originally been informed they would close by November 2, but an email confirmed the earlier shutdown date, leaving some shoppers scrambling for last-minute candy.

The closures are part of Stop & Shop’s larger plan to shutter 32 underperforming stores as part of a company restructuring announced in July.
