Firefighters put out two-alarm blaze in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE — Residents of two houses escaped a two-alarm fire that damaged both of the homes early Tuesday, fire officials said.

The blaze in the 3400 block of Monroe Avenue happened about 5 a.m., according to Contra Costa Fire Protection spokesperson Lauren Ono said.

Firefighters knocked down the fire in about two hours.

Ono said all of the occupants who were in the houses got out without injury. Ono said fire officials sounded a second alarm to protect other houses in the area and because of the size of the blaze.
