Assassin’s Creed wows fans by adding more games to a popular platform following shocking announcement

THE games industry is a mess at the moment, as it appears that more developers are laying off people every week.

Not even the big developers are safe, as Microsoft laid off more than 2.5k employees over the last 12 months.

Many companies are changing up their structures or how they make games in order to get them back on track.

One of these major publishers is Ubisoft, which has announced a number of changes to its games.

Firstly, Ubisoft revealed that its next major release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has been delayed until February, 2025.

The publisher claimed it would take the time to “polish and refine” Shadows, and prepare it for simultaneous launch on Steam.

Ubisoft also announced that Shadows would be delayed due to the “learnings from Star Wars Outlaws”, which released earlier this year.

Star Wars Outlaws was moderately successful, with positive reviews from critics and reportedly sold over a million copies.

However, this wasn’t good enough for Ubisoft’s standards, and the company soon tried to assess why the game didn’t live up to expectations.

It seems that not launching on Steam has been pegged as the reason for its lack of sales.

Ubisoft games usually launch on its proprietary platform Ubisoft Connect, while clients like Steam and Epic Games Store are more popular.

Some people are hesitant to download yet more clients on their PCs, which could lead to fewer sales of Ubisoft games.

Not only will Shadows launch simultaneously on Steam, but Star Wars Outlaws was released on Steam on the same day as the delay announcement.

Recently, Ubisoft announced that the last game in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, will also be launching on Steam.

Ubisoft hasn’t announced the exact date that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will launch on Steam, but it has said it will be “later this month”.

September and October are stacked months for gaming releases, as the holidays are just around the corner.

Not only are there higher sales around this time of year, but games want to be released in time to be considered for the end-of-year award shows.

Only time will tell if Ubisoft’s new strategy will help out with game sales.
