Miami Dolphins needs to make move and target $245m NFL rival’s quarterback after Tua Tagovailoa retirement decision

THE Miami Dolphins have a quarterback problem, and the solution may be sitting on another team’s bench.

Tua Tagovailoa has been sidelined since week two with a concussion, and the Dolphins’ attempts at quarterback without him have been less than ideal.

Originally, the Dolphins tried Skylar Thompson, but he only managed 187 yards in two games, and he didn’t manage a single touchdown.

Tim Boyle also got a shot at quarterback, but he threw just 13 passes and only managed 79 passing yards before the team moved on.

The Dolphins’ current option is five-year veteran Tyler Huntley, who made a Pro Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens.

Huntley is known for being a good running quarterback, but he has struggled as a passer for the team.

In two games he has thrown for just 290 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

He does have 47 yards and a touchdown as a rusher, but it isn’t making up for his lack of production through the air.

Tua will be eligible to return from Injured Reserve when the Dolphins come off their bye in Week 7, but there is no word on whether or not he will actually play.

He suffered his third concussion since 2022 this year, and all three were devastating injuries.

The second of his concussions caused him to miss the remainder of the season in 2022 and the most recent has him out for five weeks at a minimum.

There is no guarantee that Tua even comes back to the team, and the Dolphins need to be prepared for that possibility.

Even if Tua does return to the team later in the year, Miami needs competent quarterback play to keep them in contention for a playoff spot.

Who could give them that kind of production? Current Pittsburgh Steelers backup Russell Wilson.

Wilson was meant to enter this year as the Steelers’ starting quarterback, but a preseason injury has seen him sidelined for the first five games of the season.

While players usually don’t lose a starting job due to injury, it is going to be hard for the Steelers to bench Justin Fields, who has been balling out ever since getting the starting job.

Wilson is likely going to remain on the Steelers bench, but they could swing a trade with the Dolphins to gain some draft capital and give Miami a chance to compete.

While Wilson’s last two years of football were less than ideal, he still put up solid numbers.

In 2023 he passed for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 15 games.

Wilson is also proven to be a good competitor, making eight Pro Bowls in his 12 NFL seasons.

In his career he has over 43,000 passing yards with 334 touchdowns and only 106 interceptions.

Trading for Wilson would be a no-brainer for the Dolphins if they want to save their season with Tua out.
