VICKSBURG, MS – Thomas Oliver McIntyre passed peacefully from this life on October 3, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born January 11, 1947, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was a 1965 graduate of St. Aloysius High School. He attended Hinds Community College before earning a bachelor’s degree in education and history from the University of Southern Mississippi.

In 1969, Tom began teaching math and history at Warren Central High School where he continued working for ten years. He then began work at Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant in 1979 where he worked through various positions eventually serving as an operations superintendent before retiring.

Tom loved sharing history stories, painting miniatures, building models, and was an avid model train collector. He loved spending time in his train room and showing his grandchildren how to run them. Tom was a man of deep faith and loved serving in his church. He was a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Vicksburg and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Clinton. Through the years he served as a church council member and Sunday school teacher. Most of all Tom was a family man. He adored his wife Sue every day of their 55 years of marriage and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lover of all music and was an accomplished pianist and saxophone player. He loved sharing his passion for music with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Junius Ignatius McIntyre and Laura McIntyre Hanisee, and his siblings Elizabeth (Betty) Middleton, David McIntyre, and James (Jimmy) McIntyre. He is survived by his wife Sue Middleton McIntyre and daughters Karla McHan (David), Angela Ross (Sammy) of Vicksburg and son James McIntyre (Jennifer) of San Antonio, Texas. He has nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as two step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ruth McClain (Kevin), brother-in-law Dean Middleton (Diana), and sister-in-law Pat McIntyre. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

Visitation for Thomas Oliver McIntyre will be held at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 9:00-11:00. A service will follow at 11:00 am at Fisher-Riles and will be presided over by Pastor Al Schubert of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. A graveside service will immediately follow at Cedar Hills Cemetery.

Grandsons Connor McHan, Brian McHan, Thomas Mahoney, Zachary Ross, Mark McIntyre, and Isaac McIntyre and nephews Carroll Rhodes and Tim McIntyre will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Center Well Home Health and River Region Health Services, especially Courtney Middleton, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. David Halinski, and Dr. Robert Cannon for their tireless dedication to caring for Tom over the past few years.
