Mike McCarthy sends clear message to CeeDee Lamb and struggling Dallas Cowboys offense after DaVante Adams trade talk

MIKE MCCARTHY has sent a clear message to CeeDee Lamb and his Dallas Cowboys teammates.

The head coach has seen his team suffer a mixed start to the 2024-25 NFL season, with a 2-2 record.

They face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, looking to hunt down the Washington Commanders in the NFC East.

And there has been talk that the Cowboys could look at trading for Las Vegas Raiders star DaVante Adams.

McCarthy’s offense has been hit and miss so far, with superstar wideout Lamb not up to his usual high stat standards.

Cowboys fans have demanded more firepower for quarterback Dak Prescott to target.

The coach and Adams, 31, know each other well from their time at the Green Bay Packers together.

But McCarthy has shut down any talk of Adams coming to Dallas.

He has confirmed he is “comfortable” with his receiving core at present.

“Personally, I have tremendous love and respect for Davante,” McCarthy said.

“I had a chance to see him out there in Vegas in the preseason.

“I don’t really know exactly what’s going on there.

“Once again, we do feel very confident with our receiver room.”

It is understood Adams demanded a trade from the Raiders on Tuesday.

The New York Jets are among a number of teams looking to recruit him.

He was picked at number 53 in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Packers, while McCarthy was there.

The Fresno State recruit went on to get two Pro Bowl call ups while under his offense.

He has since gone on to make four more, in a glittering career to date.

The Cowboys have injury issues at wide receiver, with Brandin Cooks suffering a knee problem.

But McCarthy is confident Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Brooks can fill his void.

“Think if you watch us play over the course of a season, the important component in our receiver group is their ability to be able to move them in all three spots,” he added.

“Whether it’s the one spot, two spot, three spot, it’s something guys can even play what I could call the four spot, which would be in the backfield, which obviously CeeDee and Turp have played there.

“Yeah, their flexibility is important.”
