Americans to get up to $5k as part of data breach settlement – you don’t just need to show bank statement to get money


A MAJOR US brand has agreed to pay customers up to $5,000 in settlement fees after they were caught up in a data breach.

To claim the cash shoppers need to take just a few simple steps with Americans not even needing to show a bank statement to get the money.

The compensation suit relates to the Baer’s Furniture customers who had their private details leaked in a cyberattack in August 2022

Some Baer’s Furniture customers had their private details leaked in a cyberattack in August 2022.

The serious breach allegedly impacted both employees and the shoppers with their names, addresses, Social Security numbers and medical information all being shared against their will.

A class action lawsuit was filed by potential victims against the Florida-based furniture and mattress retailer.

It reportedly claimed that Baer’s Furniture didn’t provide enough security measures and failed to protect their consumers.

The company hasn’t admitted to any wrongdoing on their behalf but have agreed to pay an undisclosed fee to resolve the data breach lawsuit.

Anyone included in the class suit could be due up to $5,000 for reimbursed losses and for a loss of time, under the terms of the agreement.

The losses can include a number of factors such as travel expenses, bank fees, professional fees, credit costs and any damages caused from fraud or identity theft.

All class members are also eligible to claim for up to two years of free credit monitoring services.

Alternatively, those affected can choose a $50 upfront cash payment.

These payments do replace the unreimbursed losses as well as the credit monitoring services.

All class members need to submit a valid claim form showing they were a victim of the data breach by December 16, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the Baer’s Furniture settlement is scheduled for December 5.

HOW TO CLAIM

Shoppers eligible for the compensation have to of been affected by Baer’s Furniture data breach in August 2022.

Consumers then have to simply go to BaerDataSettlement.com and follow the instructions to enter their claims.

The website will direct you to enter in a Notice ID Number as well as your surname before taking you to the all important form.

Victims can also download the claim form from the settlement website to print off before mailing it off to the settlement administrator.

Those affected have until December 16, 2024 to make a valid claim.

A final decision on the settlement case will be decided on December 5, at 1pm in court.

The action lawsuit website helping those claim have urged others to avoid making false applications as it may harm the eligible class members.

Alternatively, members can opt out of the compensation scheme and continue on with their lawsuits separately if they do so before November 15.
