But it has now been revealed that the show will not be commissioned for another series.

Kurtwood Smith who played Red Forman in That 70s Show and That 90s Show shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Thursday.

He wrote: “I know you have been asking me when season 3 is coming, but I have tough news…Netflix will not be renewing.”

He continued: “I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the fans everywhere who supported and watched the show.

“You have come up to me in random parts of the world when I’m traveling and reached out to me through social media and just been so wonderful.”

He added: “I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all.

“I’ve said it before, but it’s worth mentioning again…this show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers and crew an actor could hope to work with.

“Thanks for letting Red and Kitty, their grandkid, all their grandkids friends and neighbors, the original cast members of That 70’s Show and all of our wonderful guest cast members entertain you for two seasons.”

Many fans were left devastated by the news and begged bosses to reconsider.

One wrote: “What no!!!!!! This show is so great. We need more Kitty, Red and Lea and the gang please rethink.”

A second posted: “I hope somebody else picks it up. Love the show.”

This person shared: “And cue my reason to cancel my Netflix subscription. That 90s show was the only reason I signed up again.”

Another added: “Very sad to hear this. That 70s Show has been a favourite since I was 13 (27 now) and I had been loving seeing Red and Kitty be grandparents on That 90s Show. Thank you for bringing us on the Foremans’ next adventure. I will miss you all dearly.

He reprised his role in the spin-off last year after playing Red from 1998 to 2006, alongside Debra Jo Rupp, who played his wife, Kitty, in both series.

The 90s spin-off returned 15 years after the first, with the daughter of Eric and Donna visiting her grandparents over one summer.

In April, it was revealed that two A-listers had quit the sitcom.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher confirmed they would not be returning for the sitcom’s second series.

Both Mila and Ashton, who played Jackie and Kelso but had limited screen time in the spin-off to original series That 70s Show.

When asked about whether fans could expect to see them in series two, Mila simply said: “No.”

She added to Entertainment Tonight: “I mean, we did our thing and they introduced our son in the show.”
