Foundation sponsors chess tournament to mark Nigeria’s 64th independence

In a bid to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day, Halimat Tejuosho, founder of the QAT Foundation, has sponsored an engaging chess tournament for the Karu Chess Players Club in Abuja, with cash and various gifts.

This event not only marked the significance of the nation’s independence but also aimed to promote chess as a crucial tool for intellectual development within the community.

Speaking at the event, Tejuosho emphasised that such events help to build a sense of community and encourage collaboration among young minds.

She added that the gesture is part of her broader initiative to commemorate this year’s independence, stressing that sport helps to build unity and togetherness among members of society regardless of their differences.

Tejuosho stressed that, “The activities highlight the importance of education, sports, and community engagement. Chess teaches critical thinking, problem-solving, and patience.

“By promoting this game, we not only celebrate our heritage but also invest in the intellectual growth of our youth. I want to express my gratitude to all participants and also to know that their enthusiasm contributes to the growing popularity of chess in Nigeria.”

The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony, where top performers received medals and recognition for their achievements.
