GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – President Joe Biden will travel to the Upstate Wednesday afternoon to tour storm damage in the Carolinas.
Biden is expected to arrive at GSP Airport around 1:20 p.m. before taking an aerial tour of damage in the Upstate and western North Carolina.
The president will also meet with first responders and local officials during his visit.
Governor Henry McMaster and members of the South Carolina congressional delegation, including Senator Lindsey Graham, will meet with the president at GSP Airport.
After touring the damage, the president will leave the Upstate and head to Raleigh to receive a briefing on the storm and damage.
The president announced Wednesday that 1,000 active-duty soldiers will be deployed to the area to assist with the delivery of food, water, and other critical items to communities impacted by the storm.
Those troops are in addition to Army, Navy, and Air Force aircraft already deployed to the area.
FEMA and other federal agencies have more than 1,200 personnel on the ground in North Carolina with more arriving daily.
The White House said Biden will also visit Florida and Georgia in the coming days.
