New Chief of Police Diana Cooley takes over at UCCS

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) welcomed the new Chief of Police, Diana Cooley, on her first day on campus.

UCCS welcomes new Chief of Police

Cooley brings over 17 years of law enforcement experience and previously served as the Commander of Patrol Operations at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Police Department.

She brings expertise in program management, crisis management, staff training and development, community engagement, and strategic planning.

“I’m excited about this opportunity and looking forward to being a part of the UCCS community,” Cooley said. “It is my commitment to campus that transparent leadership and cutting-edge policing practices will define my approach in this role.”

Before joining Anschutz, Cooley spent 16 years with the Aurora Police Department, serving in leadership roles in specialized units. She was Deputy Commander of Internal Affairs, overseeing investigations into police conduct and reviewing complaints. She also served as the department’s Public Information Officer.

Cooley holds a master’s in law enforcement and public safety leadership from the University of San Diego and a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Central Christian College of Kansas. She is a bilingual professional fluent in Spanish and has completed leadership programs, including the Senior Management Institute for Police and the FBI Executive Leadership Institute.
