Kroger responds to angry customers forced to wait for groceries and it’s ‘not the first time’

KROGER has responded to furious shoppers after they were forced to wait for groceries, a frequent issue this year.

The retailer’s same-day delivery service is one of the biggest perks for customers.

Orders can be completed online or in the Kroger mobile application, with items delivered at customers’ doors during a time window they choose.

Still, several who use Kroger Delivery have claimed to get their orders hours later than promised over the past few months.

It was no different on Tuesday for two customers who called out Kroger for missing its delivery window, and each claimed it wasn’t the first time it happened to them.

“WTH? @kroger this makes two days in a row my order for Kroger delivery is very late,” customer Eddie Qualls wrote in a post to X.

“Now you’re saying my order is going to be delayed today 7 or 8 hours?”

Kroger responded quickly to the complaint and apologized, encouraging him to send the retailer a direct message with more information for assistance.

“Hi Eddie! We’re sorry to hear about this. Please send us a DM and provide us your loyalty card number or alternate ID so that we can further assist,” the official Kroger X account replied.

“Please also verify the name and email address on the account. Thank you and have a great day!”

DOUBLE TROUBLE

It’s unclear if Eddie contacted Kroger afterward, or if the problem was resolved, and another customer, Corey, encountered a similar response.

“@kroger Don’t bother using Kroger delivery if you’re not available all day to wait on them,” he fumed in a separate X post on October 1.

“Placed an order for delivery online and was given the delivery slot of 11am-12pm.”

Corey claimed that not long after, he was informed the groceries would arrive until after 1:30 pm.

“This isn’t the first time either,” he fumed.

Kroger again responded with apologies, noting “this is not the experience we want for our customers to have.”

Kroger delivery policy

Shoppers can pay $6.95 for delivery within two hours.

Those who need something quicker can get items in as little as 30 minutes.

Orders must be a minimum of $10 to get quicker delivery.

Customers can save $15 on their first delivery order of $75 or more

Like with Eddie, Kroger asked for Corey’s loyalty card number and information about the order in a direct message, swearing to “make this right.”

Along with complaints over late arrivals with the Kroger Delivery service, some claimed they were overcharged by around $100 in their order and didn’t receive the right items.

Others accused Kroger of overcharging them by thousands for their delivery order, with it never arriving at the correct address.

MERGER MADNESS

Kroger’s also been fighting an ongoing battle with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to get its merger plans with Albertsons approved.

The $24.6 billion deal confirmed in 2022 faced a swift lawsuit from the FTC over antitrust concerns.

The commission claimed the merger would only lead to higher prices for American shoppers and lower-quality merchandise, along with a lack of healthy competition in the supermarket industry.

Court hearings held in September about the merger saw Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen argue the opposite to be true.

“The day that we merge is the day that we will begin lowering prices,” he said while being questioned by an attorney with the FTC.

“We know that pricing is going to continue to go down.”

Kroger has already committed invest $1 billion in food cost-cutting and issued plans to divest 579 stores for $2.9 billion to C&S Wholesale Grocers in July as a response to the FTC’s grievances.
