‘He is sensational’ – Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe tip and 1-2-3 prediction for Europe’s richest race

THIS year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe looks like being one of the most open renewals in years.

But I don’t think that’s quite right because I am of the opinion there is one horse head and shoulders above the rest.

His price drifting after his most recent run, where he was third in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Niel, was a gift to punters.

Sosie, who won that race, was understandably punted into favourite for the Arc on the back of it.

But markets don’t always get it right and I think that was just a reaction to the favourite being beaten – it made sense.

Let’s dig a little deeper, though.

Look De Vega’s trainer has made no bones about the fact the horse was not an optimum fitness for his most recent run.

He was forced to make his own running on his first time over 1m4f and looked cooked for the final 300m, giving up the lead.

But I’m not convinced jockey Ronan Thomas was giving his absolute all in the saddle.

Having been off for 105 days this was, let’s be honest, a freshener.

Sosie had won a Group 1 since being a well-beaten third to Look De Vega in the Prix du Jockey Club and was coming back more match-fit after 64 days off.

I didn’t see anything to suggest Look De Vega won’t stay 1m4f in his latest run.

I just can’t see how a horse who won the Prix du Jockey Club eased down but going away over 1m2f will struggle going another 400m.

I think for the second year in a row we’ll see the Prix du Jockey Club winner back up in the Arc itself.
