Department store confirms change to return policy and new ‘rigorous’ steps after woman claims it refused her refund

A TIKTOKER has shared her frustrating experience with a luxury retailer after the company refused to process a return for a $700 Ramy Brook dress.

The user purchased a dress for her sister’s wedding and was shocked when the item was returned to her for reasons she couldn’t understand.

Creator Brittany Paige (@britrtanypaigedesigns) recounts in her video, “I wore it for five minutes and sent it back, expecting the usual slow refund process.

“But to my surprise, I got the dress returned to me with claims that it was stained and smelled — claims that were completely false.”

Saks Fifth Avenue, the retailer to which Paige is referring in her video, alleged the dress had deodorant stains and body odor, despite her only trying it on briefly in her apartment.

MAJOR MISHAP

After sending photos to Saks’ customer service and repeatedly calling for updates, she was told that her return was rejected for the same reasons.

“The customer service rep was nice and agreed the dress looked fine but said she didn’t have the authority to issue a refund.

“When I asked to speak to a manager, things got dicey. It felt like they were doing everything to avoid helping me,” Paige explained.

Paige notes that she experienced issues with two previous returns that took over 60 days to process, despite Saks’ 30-day return policy.

NOT ISOLATED

She added that two of her friends encountered problems when Saks shipped them incorrect items, and then refused to accept their returns.

One friend ordered a Gucci wallet but received a lesser-value item, while another received the wrong sneakers.

Both friends were unable to secure refunds.

Paige claims to her followers, “There is something extremely fishy going on with Saks. They are basically robbing and scamming people left and right.”

She encouraged people to avoid shopping at Saks altogether, citing widespread issues from other TikTok users who shared similar experiences in the comments of her video.

RETURN RESISTANCE

Paige pointed out that Saks Fifth Avenue and its online platform, Saks.com, split in 2021.

“Saks.com is a separate entity now, but they still partner with Saks Fifth Avenue.

“People are suggesting I return the dress in-store, but the stores don’t want to process online returns. It’s just a mess.”

Paige, frustrated with Saks’ evasive tactics and lack of accountability, reported her issue to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and urged others to do the same.

“If Saks.com owes you money, you should report it to the FTC too.

“They might not resolve individual cases, but if enough people complain, maybe they’ll investigate.”

She concluded, “Do not purchase anything from Saks unless you want to get scammed.”
