Grocery chain with 27 stores in single state closing location after 30 years – customers found out by note left on door

A GROCERY chain with 27 locations in a single state is closing one location and customers only found out by a note left on the door.

Family-owned grocery chain King Kullen is shutting a store in Levittown, Long Island, for good on Thursday.

A note displayed at the front of the door read: “This store will be closing for business on Thursday, October 3”, reports Newsday.

It then redirected customers to nearby King Kullen locations at 598 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage and 1340 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh.

Spokesman Lloyd Singer told the publication the grocer did not renew the lease of their “underperforming” store at 3284 Hempstead Turnpike.

He told Newsday: “King Kullen is honored to have served the Levittown community for more than 30 years.

“No layoffs will occur. Employees are being reassigned or offered positions at other King Kullen locations.”

The chain didn’t disclose exactly how many employees would be affected by a move.

The Levittown supermarket has operated since 1994 and is 48,500 square feet in size, according to building owner Jim Dalto.

King Kullen runs 31 stores across Long Island, making it the largest family-owned grocery chain in the area.

The chain is headquartered in Hauppauge and was founded by Michael J. Cullen in 1930 – and it’s still under ownership by the Cullen family.

It comes after another store announced its closure at a single location via note.

A Starbucks in Seattle, Washington, the same city where the chain was founded, is closing for good.

The reasons behind the shutdown remain unknown, leaving customers in the dark.

A note posted on one of the windows informed coffee fanatics that the store would be shutting, as reported by the ABC affiliate KOMO-TV.

“We would like to thank you for being part of our store community. You are the heart of who were are at Starbucks.

“It has been a great pleasure to connect with you every day. We are very thankful to have played a role in your daily routine and that you have shared these moments of your life with us.”

The note invited coffee lovers to visit other Starbucks outlets in the city.

Starbucks chiefs told KOMO they are constantly reviewing their store portfolios.

They said they don’t take decisions to shutter outlets lightly.

The U.S. Sun has approached Starbucks for comment.
