Medical Center North main entrance to change Oct. 10

As part of the ongoing effort to enhance employee and visitor security across all Vanderbilt University Medical Center facilities, the entrance to Medical Center North (MCN) will change on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 10.

Beginning at 10 a.m., MCN’s current entrance at the Round Wing will close and the building’s main lobby entrance will reopen for the first time since the pandemic with both sets of double doors—ingress and egress –returning to use.

Employees will continue to be required to display their VUMC ID badges to gain entrance to MCN and other facilities.

The MCN lobby entrance, adjacent to the Commodore Cup coffee shop, will become the building’s permanent entrance for all employees and visitors and will be open 24/7.

To increase security throughout MCN, all other entrances to the building will be closed. The Round Wing entrance will revert to ambulance only access.

As part of the MCN lobby entrance’s reopening, the current UPS and FedEx package drops will be relocated to the break room at S-2327.

“The safety of our employees, patients and visitors continues to be our top priority. We are taking the next step in our physical security plan to better protect the thousands of people in MCN each day. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we implement these important changes,” said Chad Fitzgerald, JD, Executive Vice President for Shared Clinical Services.

Since March, VUMC has implemented enhanced facility security measures at Monroe Carell Jr. Hospital at Vanderbilt, the Medical Arts Building, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. As part of the overall physical security plan, enhanced security measures will be implemented at additional facilities soon.
