ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — The eastbound side of Interstate 55 near the Mississippi River was entirely shutdown around 9 a.m. A crash between a semi-truck and a dump truck sent one person to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A view from Bommarito Automotive Group SkyFOX helicopter shows what appears to be a truck with a large silver tank on its side. Debris from it spewed across the interstate.
An I-DOT truck’s front left hood and back trailer were hit in the crash. At least three firetrucks, and a line of emergency crews blocked the highway off from the bridge to about Route 3.
Lane closures are expected to remain in effect for at least two hours. See real-time traffic updates here.
