While Acrisure has not admitted to any wrongdoing, the company agreed to settle for an undisclosed amount.

The lawsuit alleges that Acrisure did not implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that ended up stealing consumer information.

Claims were made that the data breach compromised sensitive information that left them open to financial loss.

The settlement offers $4,000 to those whose personal information was taken from the December 2022 data breach.

In order to score payments, folks will need to provide account statements, tax documents, fraud claims, invoices, bills, receipts.

Additionally, a claim form must be filled out and submitted by November 14, 2024.

CASH GRAB

As mentioned, those eligible will receive $4,000 for any data breach-related losses.

Losses include damages from fraud or identity theft, professional fees, credit expenses and communication expenses.

Additionally, claimants may receive up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour.

Two years of one-bureau credit monitoring and identity protection services is also up for grabs.

MORE MONEY

Folks may also see some extra money from another data breach settlement – this time, from AT&T.

An investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) claims the company failed to protect customers’ data after its cloud vendor was hacked back in January 2023.

AT&T has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle for $13 million to resolve the FCC claims.

Americans will also see checks from an $8.85m false advertising settlement.

Those who purchased Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream between April 21, 2016, and August 14, 2024 will score $1.

What’s a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or ‘classes,’ a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.

The settlement claims the company misrepresented its product as containing real vanilla.

Its alleged that the ice cream contained artificial vanilla flavoring rather than actual vanilla derived from the vanilla plant.

However, Breyers has not admitted any wrongdoing.

To grab the cash, folks must submit a claim form by February 19, 2025.

The U.S. Sun also reported on a settlement where Americans may get $115 payments.

Plus, Home Depot is set to pay a $2 million settlement after overcharging customers.
