I was called to haul an old car away and found a 1966 classic valued around $70k – it’s a ‘labor of love’ to restore

A CLASSIC car nut has embarked on a “labor of love” restoration after discovering an abandoned 1966 muscle car worth $70,000.

The vehicle’s owner apparently thought it was “junk” and wanted it removed without realising they had a real gem on their hands.

Motoring enthusiast Christopher, who runs the Salvage Adventures YouTube channel, showed off his accidental barn find online.

He explained that he came across the ageing vehicle after the owner called his office to get it removed.

The auto whizz said: “We got a call to remove a junk car from a house a couple miles from the shop.

“They said on the phone it was just an old junk car and they just wanted the yard cleaned up and wanted it gone.

“Just [asked me] to make them a fair offer for it.”

Thankfully for Christopher what the owner considered a “fair offer” was much less than the true value of the vehicle.

It turned out that what they thought was a piece of junk was actually a Pontiac GTO from 1966.

Photos show the car in pretty bad shape, with faded paintwork and some nasty rust.

The trunk lid was hanging off and the rear bumper looked to be slightly warped.

The engine bay was orange with corrosion and it wouldn’t turn over.

And a look at the interior revealed mouldy seats and leaves strewn across the footwell.

However, Christopher explained that he’s determined to restore the vintage car to its former glory.

He shared a clip of himself power-washing it, peeling back the dirt and revealing the original yellow paint job underneath.

The project is set to be a “labor of love” but could result in a tidy profit as Pontiac GTOs from that era are worth around $70,000 in good condition.

Commenters on his video were certainly behind him, as one wrote: “The people that left out in the rain should be sent to prison.”

Another added: “At least it will be saved.”

And a third said: “They just didn’t know what they had.”

It comes after archaeologists were left baffled when they discovered a car buried beneath a pre-historic dig site.
