Catawba County School Systems Announce Closures For Monday

Due to the widespread power outages and damage caused by Hurricane Helene, there will be no school for students on Monday, September 30. It will be an optional teacher workday. QUEST Childcare will be closed, and all extracurricular and athletic activities are canceled and will be rescheduled.

Hickory Public Schools announced there will be no school for students Monday. For staff, it will be an optional workday. You are asked to only come in if it is safe for you to do so.

Staff from Hickory High School and Hickory Career & Arts Magnet (HCAM) will be working from alternate locations due to the continued lack of power. Your school administrators will provide further details.

Newton-Conover City Schools will be closed for students on Monday. Staff will observe an Optional Teacher Workday. Kid Connection will operate tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. until 6 p.m. for school aged children only.

Burke County Public Schools have announced that there will be no school for students or staff Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (September 30-October 2).

Alexander County Schools will have no school for students Monday, it is an optional teacher workday. Caldwell County Schools are closed for students on Monday, due to current road conditions and widespread power outages. It will be an optional teacher workday for staff, but we urge all staff to confirm if their work location has power and to travel only if it is safe. Supervisors are encouraged to work with staff to make up time. Remote work, where possible, is allowed. Safety is our top priority—please avoid travel unless it is safe to do so.
