Hair whizz Georgia Pearch recently showed how she transforms her locks using the trick, and the results are stunning.

In a viral clip, the hair fan explained she’d previously tried and failed to get the flawless curls, but now has it perfected.

It’s not just using straighteners though, Georgia revealed there’s another little-known trick too.

“Make sure your straighteners are clean because otherwise it doesn’t glide [over your hair] and it’s a bit naff,” she explained.

So, how should you clean your straighteners?

First, make sure they’re unplugged and cool and then use a slightly damp cloth to wipe the plates.

It’s important the cloth is only slightly damp and not wet, as this could damage your hair tool.

This should remove any product build up and allow your straighteners to do their job effectively.

Now it’s time to curl you hair.

Georgia explained in the TiKTok video that you should start by holding the hair tool the same way you would as if you’re straightening your hair.

“You do that, rotate it all the way around and then pull down,” she said.

She showed herself doing exactly that, and sure enough she was left with a stunning curl.

After repeating the process the hair fan looked incredible, and she had bouncy curls that will be sure to last all day.

“Thank you TikTok for showing me how to curl my hair with straighteners,” she captioned the clip, which currently has over 1.9 million views.

Other hair fans were quick to share some pointers too, and one commented: “I’ve been doing exactly this for years.”

“I’ve always used my straighteners to curl, I never use curlers,” a second chimed in.

And a third wrote: “You won’t get any indents in your hair if you do it sideways and away from the face.”

Other hair tips you need to know

  • The smaller the piece of hair the more defined the curl, the bigger the piece of hair the looser it will be.
  • For hair closer to the crown, twist away from your face.
  • Wrap your hair as if you were using a curling tong (don’t close the straightener completely).
  • Keep hair central in the flatiron to avoid snags.
  • For a more modern, natural look, leave the ends straighter.
  • If you’ve left any imprints in your locks, gently brushing through the curl may mask it.
  • Don’t use heat above 180 degrees Celsius

How to get wavy hair

Depending on the type of wave you’re after, the technique could vary – but the fundamentals remain the same.

  • Start with the steps outlined above by prepping and sectioning the hair.
  • For a flat and natural wave, grip one section of hair between the plates and point styler downwards at the root.
  • Rotate half a turn away from face and glide down the length of the hair releasing it before it reaches the end.
  • Repeat these steps on the rest of the hair and use a tangling comb to gently brush through the curls.

To create any wave, you should allow the hair to cool before gently brushing out the curls, and you’ll be left with stunning, natural look waves offering body and volume.

How can I fix dye damaged hair?

Have you taken the dye too far? There are some ways to fix this WITHOUT chopping the whole lot off.

  1. Give it a trim: we’re not saying you have to cut the whole lot off, but you should trim the worst offending split ends.
  2. Ditch the heat products: stop straightening/curling your hair immediately.
  3. Stop dying your hair: step away from the bleach, and starting using ammonia-free semi-permanent dyes for now.
  4. Switch to sulfate free: use kinder, sulfate-free shampoos and conditions to repair your damaged hair. And don’t shampoo more than twice a week if possible, because this strips damaged hair and makes it brittle.
  5. Treatment masks: use one of these hair treatment masks, listed below, to rejuvenate your locks.
  6. Sun protection: cover your damaged hair when sunbathing or swimming in a chlorinated pool, to prevent further damage.
  7. Eat your hair healthy: make sure you drink lots of water, eat Omega 3 fatty acids found in salmon, walnuts and flaxseeds, and green veg like spinach, kale, carrots and avocado. Some pre-natal supplements also promote hair growth.
