JD Vance Falsely Accused Of Renting A Dog For Election Campaign? Debunking Viral Claims

The internet is flooded with a viral video featuring Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who is talking to Tucker Carlson during an interview. In the interview, Vance told Carlson that his campaign team had rented a dog for him.

Did JD Vance Rent a Dog for His Election Campaign?

However, the media house Times Now has confirmed that Vance’s statement was blown out of context, and the dog seen in the video is his pet dog, Atlas.

JD Vance told Tucker that there are rumours that his dog in his campaign trial was a stunt. Vance also stated that his family got him as a puppy from a breeder.

Vance: ‘Atlas, come here. Atlas, come. What’s up, buddy? So, this is Atlas, which I found out on the internet a few weeks ago that he’s a rent-a-dog that was given to me by the campaign to make me seem like I’m a dog fan.’

The video circulating on social media made it seem like the Senator of Ohio was trying to project an image that he is a dog lover and admitted that he was renting his German Shepherd. The video was edited to convolute the truth and paint a different picture. The video shows Senator JD Vance of Ohio sitting beside ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson when Vance’s dog, Atlas, joins the interview.

The video also shows JD Vance telling Carlson,

‘He’s a rent-a-dog that was given to me by the campaign to make me seem like I’m a dog fan.’

To this, Carlson laughingly replied,

‘How weird. You’re weird.’

Similar posts about Vance renting his dog are floating on social media platforms like TikTok, Threads, and X. Interestingly, an anti-Donald Trump account’s post earned a community note.

Donald Trump’s running mate drew a lot of criticism for his off-the-cuff remarks, which also included his ‘childless cat lady’ comment and for falsely alleging that Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, are eating pets.

A spokesperson from Vance’s campaign team has confirmed that Vance and his family had adopted Atlas when he was an 8-week-old puppy in January 2024. Atlas has accompanied Vance during his Vice Presidential campaign trail and was also present for the Tucker Carlson interview.
