‘Overwhelmed’ office workers admit their lives revolve around tech devices – and NOT the other way round

OVERWHELMED office workers admit their lives revolve around their tech devices – rather than the other way round.

A poll of 2,000 adults who work in an office found they rely on three gadgets to get through the day – including a laptop, tablet, and at least one mobile phone.

10 per cent of those surveyed said they had ‘too many devices’ and are ‘bombarded’ by messages[/caption]

Nearly three in four also said they now have to ferry more tech around due to their working arrangements[/caption]

They’ll be bombarded with daily alerts from such devices – telling them to stand-up, message notifications, status updates, telling them to go to meetings, and more.

While 31 per cent agree their electronics have enhanced their lives and 30 per cent would be ‘lost’ without them, 18 per cent fear tech has effectively taken over their every day.

As such, 18 per cent are keen to take back control – and become less dependent on their devices and the need to carry so many around with them.

A spokesperson for HONOR, which commissioned the research to mark the launch its all-in-one foldable Magic V3 phone, said: “Tech should enrich our lives – not take over it.

“Having to carry around multiple devices and receiving notifications from each one seemingly every few minutes, it’s no wonder so many feel overwhelmed.

“It certainly doesn’t need to be that way.”

The study also found 10 per cent have ‘too many’ devices.

With 39 per cent admitting they’d like to carry fewer tech devices and accessories to and from work – belongings such as phones, laptops, chargers, headphones and more.

But the number of gadgets carried around has only increased for hybrid workers – employees who work from home and in the office.

Of those who fall into this category, 71 per cent said they now have to ferry more tech around due to their working arrangements.

Due to all the items those polled depend on, 51 per cent would be ‘willing’ to pay a premium for a single device which would effectively replace multiple devices.

Carried out through OnePoll.com, the study found 45 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds – more than any other age group – are overwhelmed by the number of notifications they receive day in day out.

More of those from this demographic (32 per cent) want to be less dependent on their device.

The spokesperson for HONOR added: “The research found many consumers are overwhelmed by the amount of tech in their lives – however tech could be the solution to this problem.”
