Suede season has officially arrived – how to style the ‘inbetweener’ jacket that’s everywhere this autumn

Suede jackets are topping everyone’s autumn wish-lists this season.

Suede made a big comeback over the summer with the rise of the boho trend, and it is here to stay for autumn thanks to designers such as Gucci, Max Mara and Miu Miu

Now, as we move into autumn, the trend shows no signs of fading, with high-street stores offering lots of great options.

These jackets are not only a versatile transitional piece, but also a social media hit, thanks to the fact that the chocolatey tone complements almost any neutral in your wardrobe.

The luxurious material can be dressed up or down depending on whether you are going old-money luxury or new-school cool.

While genuine suede options can be pricey, we’ve hit the jackpot on a more affordable alternative that’s equally impressive.

Here’s how our Fashion Team is styling the new ‘It-girl’ jacket of 2024…

  • Jeans, £85, Cos – BUY NOW
  • Sunglasses, £23, & Other Stories – BUY NOW
  • Bag, £99, Charles & Keith – BUY NOW
  • Shoes, £159, Arket – BUY NOW

I love the plush feel and rich colour of this faux suede jacket, and it’s a brilliant piece for making you’re whole outfit look expensive.

As I’m not feeling into a full-on autumn wardrobe yet, I’m lifting the chestnut colour with warm creams, like these barrel-shaped jeans and soft knit.

I’m also in love with these shoes from Arket and the high-shine, snake-effect leather will contrast nicely with the matte texture of the jacket.

Topped off with other tonal accessories like these aviator sunglasses and toffee-coloured tote, it makes the perfect, elevated weekend look.

A suede jacket is the top of my autumn wish ,list and I love this faux suede one from Bershka.

A lot of the other jackets I’ve seen are super-expensive, so this is a great price point, at under £50.

This kind of jacket will go with so much in my wardrobe – as well as more casual looks, I think it’s perfect to wear with dresses, too.

I’m loving the boho trend this season, so for this outfit, I’ve paired the jacket with this pink dress from Reserved.

Boots are a staple at this time of year and this brown pair from Steve Madden are a real investment that will last for years.

With some gold jewellery and a tonal brown bag to match, I’m ready for autumn.

Brown suede jackets are on every fashionista’s must-have list this autumn.

Why? They are the perfect off-duty casual-but-not-too-casual weekend jacket.

I’ll be wearing mine over a cream roll neck and a pair of white barrel leg jeans- Posh pub lunch totally sorted!

A brown suede jacket also looks great over a tonal midaxi dress if you wanted to dress it up even more.

And if you really don’t want faux suede, there are plenty of real suede vintage jackets on sites like Vinted and eBay.

  • Jacket, £49.99, Bershka – BUY NOW
  • Top, £9, Primark – RESERVE HERE
  • Jeans, £35.99, Mango – BUY NOW
  • Scarf, £270, Acne Studios – BUY NOW
  • Trainers, £49.99, Adidas at Deichmann – BUY NOW

I’m all in on the suede jacket trend and have been wearing one for the last two weeks already!

It’s perfect for this transitional weather and my wardrobe’s pretty neutral, so it fits right in.

Plus, at under £50, it’s a steal – and it even has pockets!

For a Skims dupe, head to Primark for this gym top – I’ve been wearing mine non-stop since I got it.

I style it with dark denim and my Acne scarf, but if that’s out of budget, the M&S version is almost identical and was a sell-out last year, so don’t wait!

Deichmann is really stepping up with these Adidas trainers that closely resemble the original Sambas, but without the £100 price tag.

Fabulous Fashion Editor On Autumn Trends

WANT to look fabulous this season? Then listen up…

Here, Fabulous’ fashion editor, Clemmie Fieldsend, says these are the top 5 trends from the hottest catwalk designers for autumn 2024.

BOHO: The boho revival is a much needed breath of fresh air for autumn and means you can wear your sheer tops, girly frocks and big jeans with heavy duty boots.

But if the clothes aren’t for you think, big accessories like slouchy tote bags, big earrings and bigger bangles.

TEXTURE: Be it smooth leather, sumptuous faux fur or soft suede, textures are everywhere this season.

They add depth to your look, making you stand out as well as look more expensive.

BURGUNDY: Maroon, oxblood, berry- whatever you choose to call it fashion is seeing red this autumn.

The deep and rich colour is everywhere and works best with greys, black, dark blues and in head-to-toe.

LADY LIKE: Matching top and cardigan sets and pencil skirts sound dated but they go hand-in-hand with lady-like.

Mix with satin cami dresses and waisted blazers for an ultra feminine look.

LEOPARD PRINT: This season 75% of the catwalk was leopard print, according to Tagwalk – a huge majority.

It crawled its way in last season but its rife for autumn and all over the high street, be it shoes or floor sweeping coats, it’s a must have trend.
