As the A’s play their final games at the Coliseum, we asked our readers to share their favorite memories. Here’s what they said (some of the comments were edited for space):
“Was there with my brother on Rickey Henderson’s retirement when he said among other things, ‘Rickey has tears in his eyes. Rickey has much love for the fans.’ I also saw him up in the 200 section just walking past the bar and I shook his hand. Rickey is my GOAT. Oakland A’s for life! I’ll miss the team, but I have hope the Oakland A’s will live again under new ownership.” — Chris Torres

“1990 playoff game against Boston, totally fun atmosphere, sat in company box seats, Harold Baines hits a foul ball, I reach down from the window and catch it, the roar of the fans loving my catch, I’ll never forget. TV broadcast commented on it. People Forget that the A’s were in the World Series in 88, 89, and 90, but only won in 89 against the Giants. And of course won 3 World Series in a row 1972, 73, and 74.” — Bruce Anglin
“There are so many memories from bleacher seats before Mount Davis to front row seats by the bullpen. A favorite memory was the look on my son’s 4-year-old face the first time he walked up the cement stairs and stepped out with the coliseum opening up in front of him. The look of awe and excitement will forever be a gift in this mother’s heart from the Oakland A’s. Another favorite was celebrating my husband’s 40th birthday tailgating with family and friends and a walk-off win! My 8-year-old twins were convinced the fireworks after the game that night were to celebrate my husband’s birthday.
I was living in Maine when the 20-streak win happened. A local bar stayed open late for me to watch the games and celebrated with me as we kept it going! People across the country have respect for the game and fans of the game. I wish John Fisher did, too.
This is a devastating loss for our city, our community, my family and me. We will be there to the last! My family will see you all at the Coliseum tomorrow. Pray this whole move falls apart and Fisher is forced to sell.” — Megan Doherty Carlock

“I remember leaving an A’s game and going to Hofbrau restaurant downstairs. Heard loud music so we followed it, it was Eric Clapton with Phil Collins doing sound check for their concert later that night. Sat in front row and watched Eric Clapton sing ‘I Sh** the Sheriff’ then after got up and followed everyone backstage for food and drinks and had Eric Clapton and Phil Collins sign our A’s tickets and shake hands.
