558 survivors of Boko Haram attacks empowered in Yobe

At least 558 victims and survivors of Boko Haram attacks were trained and empowered to become self-reliant in Yobe State.

The empowerment was provided by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) as part of its mandate to help them pick up their lives having been battered by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The commission’s Managing Director, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, disclosed this to newsmen at the handing over of the empowerment equipment to the beneficiaries in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe.

Alkali, who was represented by NEDC’s Yobe State Coordinator, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the 558 beneficiaries, who are mostly youths, were selected from the state’s 17 LGAs.

He said the beneficiaries had undergone 3 months of training on the Fabrication of Energy Efficient Stove/Briquette Production as well as Renewable Energy Youth Empowerment.

He added that the programme, was aimed at improving the livelihood of victims, particularly those that lost their jobs and breadwinners through insurgency.
