With just over five days until Election Day 2024, Kamala Harris found herself cleaning up a dumpster fire of controversy on Wednesday courtesy of President Joe Biden, rather than basking in the glow of her closing statement in front of the grand DC Mall at the American public.
In response to a question about comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s widely maligned “island of trash” joke about Puerto Rico at Sunday’s Madison Square Garden rally for Donald Trump, Biden on Tuesday called the Republican candidate’s supporters “trash,” saying millions of American Republicans were tarred in one fell swoop – a move reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s comment about the ‘basket of deplorables’ that helped torpedo her campaign against Trump in 2016.
The White House rushed to walk back the comment, but a top researcher is already calling crack “one of the biggest obstacles to Kamala Harris’ victory.”

Tim Walz insists Biden calling Trump supporters ‘trash’ is NOT undermining their ‘unity’ message

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz made the rounds on morning news programs Wednesday in damage control after President Joe Biden called Donald Trump’s supporters “trash.”
But the Democratic vice presidential nominee insisted that Biden’s bungled response to the offensive comments does not undermine the party’s message of unity.
“You compared Trump supporters to Nazis. Biden called them “garbage.” Hillary called them “deplorables.” Doesn’t that undermine your fake message of ‘unity’?’ CBS Mornings host Tony Dokoupil asked Walz.
The governor replied, “No, certainly not.”
The whole debacle was sparked when a comedian at Trump’s Mardison Square Garden on Sinday called Puerto Rico a “floating pile of trash,” sparking anger among the Hispanic community as a whole.
But then Biden gave Republicans a huge boost in the matter when he said Tuesday that “the only trash I see floating out there [Trump] supporters.’
Top researcher calls Biden one of the biggest obstacles to Kamala Harris’ victory
Poll aggregator Nate Silver has warned that Joe Biden is “one of the biggest obstacles to Kamala Harris’ victory” after the president called Donald Trump’s supporters “trash.”
Silver, the founder of polling analysis site FiveThirtyEight, suggested that Biden will be largely responsible if the Democrat does not win the White House next week.
He claimed that the 60-year-old Harris has done a “pretty good job” of rallying support ahead of what could be one of the closest races in history, despite “Biden doing everything he could to screw it up.” .
Kamala Harris’ campaign remains silent on Biden’s ‘garbage’ blunder so far
There is still no official response from Kamala Harris’ campaign after Joe Biden’s ‘garbage’ blunder.
When the president appeared to call Donald Trump’s supporters “trash” on Tuesday evening, it overshadowed his vice president’s final event in Washington DC.
The resulting furor torpedoed what the Harris campaign had expected to be mainstream media coverage of her latest argument against Trump.
While the White House has tried to downplay Biden’s comment, the Harris campaign has remained silent.
475 ballots are being saved from burned mailboxes in Washington, auditor says
About 475 damaged ballots were retrieved from a ballot box that was burned early Monday in Vancouver, Washington, as police condemned the act as a “direct attack on American democracy.”
Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey said workers will begin searching the damaged ballots Wednesday for voter information to contact them about obtaining a new ballot.
He said officials believe the workers, even if damaged, will be able to extract voter information from the ballots.
Trump leads Republican anger after Biden called his supporters ‘trash’
By Katelyn Caralle, senior US political reporter in Allentown, Pennsylvania
Donald Trump said President Joe Biden calling his supporters “trash” is worse than Hillary Clinton’s 2016 “basket of deplorable” comments.
Trump spoke Tuesday evening to thousands of fans gathered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with just seven days to go until the election.
The 81-year-old commander-in-chief responded Sunday to a comedian at Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden who compared Puerto Rico to a “floating island of trash.”
Biden said during a campaign Zoom on Tuesday night, “The only trash I see floating out there is his [Trump’s] supporters.’
It immediately sparked backlash from MAGA fans, including Trump himself, who spoke about it in the middle of his rally.
“Wow, that’s something [Biden] says…garbage. I think it’s worse [than deplorables],” he fired back.
Biden calls Trump supporters ‘garbage’ in moment of shock, reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s ‘deplorable’ insult
The 81-year-old commander-in-chief’s blunder brought back memories of Hillary Clinton’s infamous dismissal of Trump voters as “deplorables” in 2016, which contributed to her shock defeat.
It came as Harris hoped to capture the nation’s full attention with a carefully planned rally in front of the White House for 75,000 Democrats a week before Election Day. Harris used the event Tuesday night to make her final plea, declaring she would be a unifying president “for all Americans.”
Opinion polls in Michigan had Trump and Kamala in hot water with just six days to go
Katelyn Caralle, senior US political reporter
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are nearly tied in Michigan, according to a new poll released just six days before the 2024 presidential election.
A Suffolk/USA Today poll shows Trump with a narrow lead of 0.4 percentage points over Vice President Kamala Harris — 47.4 percent to 47 percent.
Michigan is one of seven swing states that are essential to achieving a victory on November 5. The others are Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The results between the candidates are well within the 4.4 percentage point margin of error in the Michigan poll.
Of the 500 Michiganders surveyed, 1.4 percent still say they will vote for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. And the same percentage say they will vote for Green Oarty candidate Jill Stein.
Exclusive:Tim Scott reveals why black men have been duped by Democrats for years and should vote for Trump
Senator Tim Scott told DailyMail.com that black male voters have been lied to by Democrats for years.
And that is why enthusiasm for Donald Trump among them has never been greater, he says.
With less than a week until Election Day, the South Carolina Republican is traveling the country to attend events with Black voters in swing states on behalf of the ex-president and Republican Senate candidates.
During his travels he regularly hears frustrations from these men who indicate that they feel duped by the Democrats.
“What I often hear is that ‘the Democrats lied to us,’” Scott revealed to DailyMail.com.
Exclusive:Steve Bannon: I Survived Prison Because My Life Was Nothing Like Hunter Biden’s — He Won’t Last Two Days
Hours after he was released from federal prison, Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist, said he had a warning for the Biden family: Pardon Hunter before he has to serve a sentence that could destroy him.
“I don’t think Hunter Biden would last 48 hours in a federal prison,” he told DailyMail.com
“I think it would be too much for him, especially because of his previous drug addiction.”
