2 Los Angeles grocery stores vandalized within an hour

Two grocery stores in L.A.’s Westlake neighborhood were vandalized early Monday morning, police say.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a citizen call reporting a window smash in the 1100 block of 6th Street at 4:32 a.m.

When they got to the scene, officers found the front entryway to the store, a Grocery Outlet, had been smashed.

Additional units were requested to do a building search and investigate whether anything was taken, an LAPD spokesperson said; police at the scene told KTLA that no suspects were found inside the store.

Just under an hour later at 5:22 a.m., another grocery store, Lupita’s Corner Market and Deli, had part of their front entrance smashed, authorities confirmed. Lupita’s is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Lucas Avenue, less than half a mile away from the Grocery Outlet that was vandalized.

This location has a metal garage-style door in front of the storefront when closed, but the vandals were able to bypass it and enter inside, video from the scene shows.

Police could not confirm if anything was taken from Lupita’s; additionally, it is not known if the two incidents are related.

No description of a suspect or suspects was immediately available.

Nancy Fontan and KTLA photojournalist Chris Gierowski contributed to this report.
